Interesting post, but this hardly news in physics or philosophy. It is becoming a fairly common idea or proposition, including both panpsychism as advocated by Chalmers or proto-consciousness advocated by Penrose and Hameroff. Right now I’m reading Christof Koch, one of the leading thinkers and writers on this. He heads the Allen Brain Institute in Seattle. The Integrated Information Theory is part of his position as well.
I think the news is that they think they are closer to proving it.. or at least have come with a shortcut that doesn’t involve calculations that take longer than the duration of the universe. Maybe quantum computing will help…
